Opera

Opera is a free web browser whose first version dates back to 1995. Today, it is one of the most widely used browsers in the world. This is mainly due to the large number of features on offer, as well as its focus on speed, privacy and user security. Like Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and many others, Opera Software's browser is based on Chromium, so it's compatible with almost all extensions and plugins available for these browsers.

Customize the browser as soon as you install it

After installation, when you open Opera for the first time you will have to choose between a range of options that allow you to customize your experience with the browser. First of all, you can choose to import all your bookmarks and favorites from any other browser installed on your PC. You can also select the instant messaging apps you typically use in order to integrate them within the browser. This makes using apps like WhatsApp and Telegram more comfortable. Finally, if you prefer, you can automatically activate ad blocking.

Integrated VPN

One of Opera's most interesting features, and what distinguishes it from other web browsers, is a VPN service integrated directly into the app. To turn on the VPN, simply click the button to the left of the address bar. By default, the VPN will connect you to the fastest server, but you have the option to manually choose between America, Asia or Europe. This VPN is completely free and unlimited, however, activating it may have an impact on browsing speed.

This Premium subscription service allows you to use the VPN outside the browser, like with video games or streaming apps, for example. You will also have the choice of more than 40 different locations, including specific countries like Japan, Malaysia, Australia, Brazil, Canada and Singapore. Opera VPN Pro also tends to offer significantly faster browsing speeds than the free version.

Aria: AI for your everyday

Just like Microsoft Edge's Copilot tool, Opera comes with its own native AI, called Aria. It's totally free to use, and can answer any question relating to your searches. For example, if you want to know where to download video game ROMs or emulators, just ask Aria where you can do so. Aria can also help you write an email, make a presentation, or draft a social media post.

Synchronize the browser between mobile and desktop

If you use Opera on other devices, like Android, you can keep them in sync. The My Flow feature allows you to send files, notes and links between browsers. Essentially, you create temporary cloud storage where you can share files with yourself. This means that, if you download something to your mobile device that you need on your PC, you can share it through this feature. You can even share files with other users by scanning a QR code.

Keep your tabs well organized

Opera includes a feature called Workspaces, which allows you to organize tabs into different areas. This feature is particularly useful for those who work from home and want to properly separate their professional use from their personal leisure space. As well as Workspaces, you have what are known as Tab Islands, groups of several tabs within the same button, allowing you to access them more quickly and taking up less space in the navigation bar.
